I was wanting a bike that could do road riding, club riding (that always includes fast race like segments), even a bit of off road or trail use, and that had disc brakes. When I saw the unique design of this Giant Anyroad & read other reviews, I drove 60 miles to a distant shop for a test ride. I was very impressed. I already have a carbon road race bike, so I wasn't looking for a super light race machine, but rather a tougher, more versatile machine. For example, we have in our part of rural East Texas poorly maintained county roads with potholes, patches of gravel, wooden bridges & the like. These are all hard on lightweight road race bikes, and none too comfortable. Enter the Anyroad, it's tough, the frame dampens vibration very nicely, has durable mountain / cyclocross type rims that can run wider 28 / 32c wide cross terrain tires, wider fork & chainstay clearance & disc brakes for all weather performance. So, it's now my 'go to' bike for fitness riding, club rides and anthing that includes rough roads, trails, multi-day tours and so on. My only 'Con' is that it's on the 'heavy' side at 24.5 # - this is the Aluminum Anyroad 2 model with 3x9 speed Sora level shimano groupset. But I look at it like it's a better workout to push this slighly higher weight around & then I can always to faster on my full carbon 16 # race bike when I feel like it ! Giant also offers a lighter Anyroad Comax model with a Carbon Fiber frame, and I plan to test ride one at the soonest opportunity. In the meantime, this is a superb bike. It has a 'balanced' feel that is really unique - it handles very well with nice compliance in the ride, never harsh, yet very efficient at converting pedaling effort into propulsion. The brakes are super strong discs, the whole machine feels really 'sorted out' - like if you had to choose only ONE bike for any & all situations, this is the ONE bike that could conceivably 'do it all'.
I am a 40 year old man. I just started biking last year and this is my first upgraded bike. This was the perfect first bike. I am still learning how to ride long distance and which roads to ride. I can get on the bike and go for a couple of hours down the road and if I want to get on a trail half way then this bike will let me. I had to change the saddle because I thought the OEM saddle was to stiff but I am new to biking. But because I am new that should say how comfortable the bike is because I can get on it and do a 2 hour ride with no problems. The only issue that I am having is the shimano sora gears are giving me problems. I have had to take it in twice to get adjusted.. I wish I would have got the anyroad 1 because of the upgraded gears but the rest of the bike is awesome.
